0Txema Yeste creates an erotically charged fashion fantasy with Jac Jagaciak in the pages of Numero. Styled in revealing jet black looks by Franck Benhamou and sporting short, gamine hair Jac takes on a whole new persona. The strong, at times androgynous woman she portrays in this story is a striking change from the way she’s usually photographed and she pulls the look off with aplomb, conveying the right mix of sensuality and confidence in all her images. Yeste’s saturated color palette and the stark assortment of ensembles make for a thrilling tribute to the season’s obsession with powerdressing.

0The Versace woman is an ideal unto itself. In the 30 plus years since the brand’s inception, Versace has created an iconic interpretation of femininity that resonates in and out of the fashion sphere. Ask the average person to describe a Versace woman and certain words automatically spring to mind – powerful, sexy, intense, vibrant and every other adjective that indicates that mix of femininity and carnality that remains a house signature. Donatella knows what the people want and she gives it to them, it’s no accident that perennial favorite Naomi Campbell opened and closed the Atelier Versace show wearing next to nothing. Sex appeal and a hint of shock value are standard on the Versace runway and couture offered a refined take on those themes.Stylized 1930s portraiture may have been the starting point for Donatella’s lavish showing, but the final collection was firmly rooted in the now. Crystal embellishments, matte croc suiting, smoking jackets worn with little more than a lacy bra – these are pieces designed with seduction in mind. In a youth obsessed industry Versace is offering something decidedly adult; transparency, thigh high slits and plunging necklines dominated the collection and the revealing wares transformed even the most innocent looking models into femme fatales worthy of cinema. Noirish moments aside, the 30s influence was hammered home by way of Art Deco-esque patterns in embroidered onto sculpted gowns and a wealth of weighty diamond jewelry designed by Donatella herself. These choice details are sure to enthrall history buffs, if they can tear their eyes away from all the skin on display.Text by Janelle OkwoduImages by Lea Colombo for Models.com

0As one of fashion’s most forward thinking designers, Iris van Herpen is always there to push the envelope. Whilst others are churning out ball gowns or cocktail dresses to send down the catwalk, van Herpen uses her runway as a platform for innovation. Utilizing cutting edge processes like 3-D printing to create cocoon like shapes and sculptural forms, van Herpen hammered home ideas about body modification and surgical perfection. Silicone accents echoing the shape of bones, or fanning out in layers of triangular fringe gave the collection its fantastical feel. Even in the typically lavish realm of couture, van Herpen’s designs stand out as a over the top abstractions, destined for a place in groundbreaking editorials and on the pedestals of fashionable museum exhibits.Text by Janelle OkwoduImages by Lea Colombo

0The women’s side at Louis Vuitton has never lacked for excitement, thanks to Marc Jacob’s showmanship, and it’s nice to see that, three seasons into Kim Jones’ tenure, some of that spark has leaked over onto the men’s side. For his Spring 2013 collection, Jones set up a glowing translucent runway of screens that glowed and glimmered as the boys marched up and down in a hypnotizing display of light and color. But that’s not to say it was all style and no substance, however. Jones once again demonstrated the power of the age-old Louis Vuitton idée fixe of wanderlust, this time heading for the water with a collection full of nautical touches that maintained the brand’s feel of unassailable luxury. There were cashmere wetsuits and rope sandals and Japanese fishermen’s coats made up of frayed patches. There were anchors and double-breasted captain’s blazers and backpacks dotted with spots of neon as if to make their owners easier to spot when lost in a dark and roiling sea. There was even a leather lifejacket. But for all its cheekily clever nods at the seafaring life, this was a collection that will find a happy home in many closets safely on shore as well. Jones displayed yet again the sharp hand for tailoring he perfected in his earlier stint at Dunhill, sending out a number of suits that, yes, would be ideal for an evening on the yacht, but would be just as desirable on land. There was a playfulness to the collection that we’ve come to expect from Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton, a refreshing new take on a legacy of over 150 years that keeps reminding us why it’s been one of the top houses for all that time.Text by Jonathan ShiaPhotos by Kevin Alfaiza

0David Sims pulls out all the stops for Vogue’s tribute to American style through the ages. 0Is Terry Richardson‘s all out sapphic friends with benefits fest in the latest Purple Magazine sexy or trashy? We know that Terry’s work has been known to straddle that line but what are your thoughts on the Freja Beha Erichsen, Eniko Mihalik, Abbey Lee Kershaw & Magdalena Frackowiak edit and its clothing optional policy? Maybe it is just me but I think the pictures with clothes work a lot better than those without – what says you?

0Hedi Slimane is the master of the evocative black and white image. His pictures are always simple, moving and more often than not feature the beauty of a lean nude frame. Magdalena Frackowiak is the latest model to strip down for Slimane’s lens and her series of sensual shots for Man About Town is a perfect example of Hedi at his best. The pictures are sexy without ever seeming over the top and Magdelena’s natural beauty shines through in every image.

0AJ Abualrub appears in the September issue of GQ Russia alongside James Hampson and Helge Gjerstad showcasing some of fall’s finest looks from Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and more. The changing leaves of autumn always results in an opportunity to explore some enticing layered outfits and Walter Chin captures these three distinctly handsome men in a variety of coats, blazers, cardigans, vests, and collared shirts partnered with tailored pants and refined footwear. If you’re looking for an accessory more signature of 2010, lose your tie and add a few bow ties to the mix this fall. Those who are truly looking to standout can experiment with the addition of some bold eyeglass frames, a trend that has become increasingly popular with members of young Hollywood like Joe Jonas. 0Hedi Slimane might not be the first name you think of when you hear the words “classic glamour,” but the edgy designer turned photographer, goes traditional for the latest issue of Vogue Paris. Gone are the minimalism and grunge that have come to typify Slimane’s work and in their place is pure 70s chic. Anja Rubik dons power suits and slinky gowns chosen by Emmanuelle Alt and Slimane shoots her looking sensual in an ornate Parisian apartment. Do you like Hedi’s take on elegance – or do you prefer his typical style?

0Every year there are pieces that become repeat offenders: out of the hundreds of looks presented each season a few manage to monopolize editorial space and show up in just about every magazine. When you see the same piece in different images the importance of styling, hair & makeup really becomes evident – one wrong element and the clothes can look unappealing.Lately we’ve been noticing a very chic Yves Saint Laurent coat popping up in editorial after editorial, looking different in each picture. Made of “pale green lace jacquard with black cornelly embroideries” the coat was look one during the spring / summer show and looked pretty fetching on Kasia Struss. In the magazines the same look takes on a variety of guises: in the pages of Vogue Italia it turns into a harlequin costume for Querelle Jansen, while Harper’s Bazaar uses it as a retro topper for a blonde Bette Franke. W Magazine focuses on the graphic print with a black and white shot and some serious eye makeup on Cara Delevingne, while Elle goes in a flamboyant direction placing it on top of a red satin bra and a knit skirt from Chloe.
-
0Makeup is an important element of every editorial, but there are some stories where the cosmetic artistry is especially eye-catching. The metallic looks on Du Juan created by makeup artist, Ozzy Salvatierra and photographed by Lachlan Bailey in the latest Vogue China, are great example of unconventional yet beautiful makeup. Du always looks pristine, but the mix of silver textures on her skin gives her an otherworldly glow. It is always nice to see a classic beauty wearing a look that is futuristic and edgy.

0Notorious reputation aside, Terry Richardson can keep it classy when he wants to; case in point, the photographer’s latest story for W, an appealing slice of Manhattan life piece featuring the lovelies Jessica Stam, Tao Okamoto, Karolina Kurkova, Viktoriya Sasonkina, Elisa Sednaoui, Edita Vilkeviciute, Ana Beatriz Barros, Liu Wen and Rianne Ten Haken. Whether it is Rianne looking ladylike in Vuitton outside the Time and Life Building, or Stam holding a pooch in head to toe Miu Miu; the story presents a chic and classic take on urban dressing that never loses its edge. View the entire affair at WMagazine.com.

0Toni Garrn, Rose Smith, David Agbodji, Ian Mellencamp, Arthur Kulkov, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lykke Li and Sky Ferreira all in one room: must be another night at the Standard. Harper’s Bazaar heads to the hotel’s fabled Boom Boom room for a story that sets out to capture the vibrant energy of Manhattan’s late night scene. With a mix of models, actors, actresses, musicians, a cameo from artist Richard Phillips and even a glimpse of New York’s reigning social fixture Derek Blasberg the story by Alexi Lubomirski gets the feel of rooftop party right. Brana Wolf‘s selective styling never fails to impress and here she features a range of looks, from classic chic Dior to offbeat Miu Miu. All in all the story is gorgeous – with one small flaw, David’s handsome face barely makes it into any images! The party could have benefited from a few shots of Mr. Agbodji.

0Menswear editorials have always played with ideas about androgyny and gender, but fashion is experiencing a drag moment these past few months. You could call it the Candy effect; the groundbreaking transgender fashion mag launched with a now infamous editorial / cover by Brett Lloyd and since then photographers from Nick Knight to Terry Richardson and Steven Klein have all incorporated drag looks in their photographs. Shots of boys in girls clothing test the versatility of male models (who knew Cesar Casier looked so great in a shift dress) and challenge archaic rules about who can wear what, but are you enjoying fashion’s love affair with all things drag? Let us know in the comments!
