Steven Yeun on the run in AMC's "The Walking Dead." (TWD Productions/AMC) Steven Yeun says he was first bitten by the performance bug as a youth while singing and playing guitar at the Korean First Baptist Church in Rochester Hills. Now, for his starring role in the television series "The Walking Dead," the young actor is doing everything he can to not be bitten by anything else. "I just came from beautiful weather in Los Angeles to (the set in) Atlanta, where the heat index was like 114 (degrees), and the very first thing I had to do was run sprints up and down the streets with zombies right on my trail," Yeun said. "The very first day and I got rocked." Yeun might be running for his life during takes, but he isn't complaining. The 26-year-old Troy native is thrilled to be a critical part of the cast on the highly anticipated new AMC series "The Walking Dead," which premieres tonight. The modern-day zombie thriller is based on Robert Kirkman's popular graphic novel series and has an initial six-episode order."It's been surreal," Yeun said of his nearly year-old Hollywood experience. The 2001 Troy High School graduate, who studied psychology at Kalamazoo College, said he was prepping to apply for graduate schools when he started thinking about his theater classes and stage experience and the encouragement he received from peers and professors to pursue a career in the arts. With the support of his parents, who own two beauty supply companies in metro Detroit, Yeun left Michigan for Chicago after graduating and landed in the Second City comedy troupe, where he honed his skills and toured. In the fall of 2009, after appearing in the critically acclaimed indie film "My Name is Steve," Yeun set his sights on Los Angeles. Once settled in, he quickly nabbed a guest spot on CBS's "The Big Bang Theory." Now, before Yeun goes head to head with "The Walking Dead," he has to first survive this interview with the Free Press
