AS THE Chinese community the world over prepares to celebrate Chinese New Year tomorrow, many celebrants are tied down with preparations in anticipation of the arrival of the Year of the Snake.
On the eve of the auspicious event, celebrants both young and old gather around for a great meal and to watch the celebrations unfold on the television, in what is traditionally a family get-together.
However, there is a small section of children who are left behind, feeling little or no positive difference to their daily struggle. Hence, in the run-up to the festivities, Fitness Zone organised its ‘Love Without Boundaries Campaign,’ giving away New Year’s gifts to 100 orphaned children at its Kiulap branch.
Present as guest of honour to witness the campaign was Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman. Also present were KFC B Sdn Bhd Senior Marketing Manager Jonathan Bong and Mum’s Bakery representative Ho Poh San.
“My late mother influenced me tremendously towards charity involvement and I now find it the greatest joy to make someone’s day brighter. I want to show these orphans or single-parent children like me that someone really cares about them. I am also thankful to my good friends, KFC and Mum’s Bakery, for joining me on board to support this heart-warming event,” said Fitness Zone founder Wu Chun.
KFC and Mum’s Bakery have thrown their support behind the campaign by providing the children with KFC vouchers and refreshments, while Mum’s Bakery gave away Chinese New Year biscuits.
Fitness Zone also expressed its utmost gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as the Community Development Department (JAPEM) for their support. Additionally, a life-time Fitness Zone membership was presented to Datin Paduka Hajah Adina.
“Datin Adina has always been so passionate when it comes to charity projects. Her contribution to society always amazes me,” Wu Chun said.
This year, to honour these 100 children and make a difference to their lives, Fitness Zone is organising a fun and healthy group exercise session consisting of dance and fitness workouts.
“We have never met these children but we would like them to know that love is without boundaries. A portion of the Fitness Zone income has always been set aside for charity projects so Fitness Zone will consistently be able to do its part in helping others and in making a difference,” Wu Chun explained.
Aside from handing out red packets, Fitness Zone also gave away a one-year membership to all the children.
“I want these children to know that they are never lonely and they can always come to their second home, Fitness Zone, not only to enjoy all the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, but to make friends with all our kind-hearted members,” Wu Chun shared.
