Thousands of people celebrated the second annual National Sport Day yesterday, as sporting events all across Qatar have demonstrated the importance of ‘Sport for All’.
The National Sport Day officially started with the VIP Walk at the Corniche, with the participation of high ranking officials, such as QOC Secretary General His Excellency Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Health His Excellency Abdulla Bin Khalid Al Qahtani, Minister of Justice His Excellency Hasan Bin Abdullah Al Ghanem, ExxonMobil President and General Manager Bart Cahir and famous Australian Olympic multi-medallist Ian Thorpe, among other distinguished personalities.
The National Sport Day was celebrated in different spots in Doha and all across Qatar, including Aspire, Katara, Corniche, Al Refaa, Museum of Islamic Art Park and all sports clubs facilities. Another highlight of the day was the launch of the ‘Be Fit’ competition, which drew many people, men and women. Many participants will commit to a weight losing process, closely monitored by VLCC experts, further promoting the concept of a healthy lifestyle and being in the contest for the QR250,000 prize pot. The National Sport Day offers the perfect occasion for everyone to follow a healthy lifestyle, practice sport and learn about the benefits of an active lifestyle. As the lights of day faded on the Corniche, a magnificent event concluded the first day at the QOC Sports Zone, with thousands of balloons lighting the sky up and offering a unique spectacle to thousands of people. As the Sports Zone will remain open until 16 February, everyone will have the opportunity to participate and practice sports and learn more on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. You are all invited to visit the Sports Zone, and try the different sports there!
