Lleyton Hewitt Fiery former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt will be blazing his way this summer to the 2013 BB&T Atlanta Open.
The former Wimbledon (2002), U.S. Open (2001), and World Tour Finals (2001, 2002) champ will be returning to Atlanta for the third time after taking last year off. Hewitt has been intimidating the competition ever since he won his first pro tournament in his hometown of Adelaide, Australia back in 1998 at the young age of 16, beating Andre Agassi along the way. Hewitt’s title also came with a notable first. Ranked No. 550 on the tour when he won, Hewitt remains the lowest ranked men’s player to ever capture a professional singles title.
Lately, Hewitt only competes sparingly on the Tour due to injury and spending time with his wife, Australian actress Bec and three kids Mia, 8, Cruz, 5, and Ava, 3.
Even still, however, Hewitt has continued to make his presence known on the tour in 2013, his 15th year. The year was highlighted by a three set win in Indian Wells over former BB&T Atlanta Open finalist John Isner, proving that Hewitt still has the championship game to beat the young guns on the Tour. With his quick feet and ability to wear down even the biggest hitters from the baseline, Hewitt is known to be a tough out. A gritty competitor with a fierce persona, Hewitt will be a stern test for whoever is drawn against him in Atlanta.
