Books and Reading

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, it’s my honor to make a speechabout books and reading here.
As we know, knowledge plays an important role in our life, the morebooks we read, the more knowledge we get.
Learning is one of the characteristics which could distinguish humanfrom other animals. In other words, learning spontaneously is one of man’sunique traits. Look back into history, our ancestors handed down our culturefrom generation to generation by books. Therefore, we can conclude that allforms of learning, including the learning of skills, the formation of views andthe absorption of knowledge, take a very essential part in the course of humancivilization.
Once stops learning, vegetation arises. To each of us, the process oflearning may be full of difficulties, but the result isoften sweet and satisfactory. In terms of reading, I believe that it’s betterlate than never. In this knowledge explosion world, no one could live withoutreading.
So what kinds of books are good? Everyone has his answer—The bookwhich can make you happy, angry, crazy, and so on.
Now, let me introduce some books to you.
The firstone of dystopian trilogy, Aldous Huxley wrote the book named Brave New World. Inthis book people live in a absolute “peaceful” world, follow a rule, and don’thave love, pain, exact, and many kinds of moods.
Is this a good world? Maybe not, so, we should talk aboutnext book, The second one of dystopian trilogy-George Orwellwrote this book,”1984”
It’s also a different world. It’s “peaceful”, no one could run awayfrom this rule. They should believe no matter what happens in this world, bigbrother would make them success. And if someone does not believe this, he willdisappear, no one will remember him, or, no one dare to remember him. If theydo, they will disappear next.
War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.They all believe it.
O`Henry’s book “The Gift of the Magi”, ”The Man HigherUp” and ”The Last leaf” are also good ones.
Emily Bronte is famous for her book “Wuthering Heights”.It’s the book which enlighten my interest to Europeannovels. It begins with the crazy love between agirl and a boy, ends with another love story between a girl and a boy. But oneis sadness, the otheris happiness.
If we want to change ourselves, we should know more.There are so many books can give you knowledge, and we all know that is notenough.
Catch and learn them, create your own book like yourlife, we should believe the more efforts we make to learn, the more wecan gain to our lives. Learning is the surest way to get eternal joy.
Greatness is never a given. It must be earned.
