Cards 2.0 - Building a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow!
by Vontre » Sun Jun 07, 2015 3:12 pm
We here at Bit Mass have been in the lab for quite some time cooking up something extraordinary. We're proud to announce our final major systems revamp which we're calling Cards 2.0! Cards 2.0 is a wholesale re-imagining of the signature Cards and Castles gameplay in a sleaker and better format. Much of the gameplay and interface has been reviewed with a highly critical eye and many things have been changed to meet a higher standard of quality. This version of the game will soon be available in a PUBLIC PC BETA!
We're changing our overall approach to stability and balance after this revamp, and are proud to announce that there will no longer be any hotfix balance changes after this patch except in the most extreme of circumstances. Instead, balance changes will only come during a MAJOR content release and should be small in scope. We will need a lot of help getting everything in tip-top shape before the release of this patch, so please join our beta test!
KEY FEATURES
- Mono faction decks and hero cards! 5 of our most notable legendary characters have been converted to hero cards. Hero cards have been revamped with slightly stronger mechanics and can ONLY be used in mono-faction decks, opening up great new themed options for deck building! Cards 2.0 is planned to launch with the following hero cards: Brynjolf the Ancient Hero (fitting!), The Eye of Flame, Dread Pirate Bobberts, The Spirit Panda and Lionel the Arbiter.
- Mulligan system! You now have the option to swap out up to 3 cards in your starting hand!
- Expanded targeting: most cards now have more options for targeting either enemy or friendly units, opening up the potential for many clever plays. For example you might decide to reduce an enemy unit's health with bloodthirst, or damage your own unit to trigger an on-death effect, or just simply make the hard choice to burn through a cantrip by buffing an enemy.
- Improved gold and card curve! Less top-decking, more interesting choices. The power of cards will increase more aggressively with higher gold costs, making the pace of the game more exciting. Players will find it beneficial to hold more cards in hand, reducing the frequency of top-decking gameplay. This change affects all numbers in the game.
- Greater variety of playstyles! The general numbers retune opens up many strategies that were previously unviable, while keeping things fun for everyone. Healing and direct damage are both more potent, ramp-themed decks are now viable, and many previously marginalized cards such as Battojutsu and Tower of Forbidden Knowledge have been restored to their former glory!
- Total tutorial revamp plus greatly improved friend rewards! It'll be much easier to get your friends into the game after the revamp with our new tutorial and starting experience. All opening matches have been redone to better explain the game, and users now quickly earn a set of starter cards that will NOT appear in boosters! Rewards for referring a friend will also be greatly improved!
- Easier card collection and deck building! We've reduced the deck size to 30 and changed the individual card limit to 2, so each card you collect will bring you much closer to a full set! (Users with existing high stacks WILL BE COMPENSATED GENEROUSLY for this change). The new starter set classification is also excluded from boosters, which will make it easier to find the cards you want!
- Faster paced gameplay: in order to increase the variety of starting moves and improve the pace of gameplay, capturable towers have been removed from all gameplay formats.
- Much more customization, with unlockable customizable castles and limited edition alt-art cards. Earn these rewards through ranking and other avenues to show others how much of a bamf you are!
- In-game emote system, so you can communicate with the enemy player via simple emotes.
- Separate rules for async mode: async games will have different starting conditions from live games, allowing both formats to be better tuned to their respective timers!
Please note that a few of these planned features, such as the emotes, customization, tutorial/single player and async changes, will not be ready until a future release. Interface changes are also a work in progress. We look forward to seeing you on beta!

长文懒翻……这次节目的主要内容有:
整体大调整!这次调整完平衡性以后就只在大更新时小改一下旧卡,不会每次都调整好多了,以及这次好像要加强高费削弱右手第一张增加游戏多样性之类;
5张传说(维京boss、火眼、海盗船长、精灵熊猫、十字军大锤)变成更厉害的英雄卡,但只能用在单职业卡组里;
好多单体卡可以选择敌我双方的单位为目标了;
教程重做,更容易拉人入坑,有一部分卡划为基本卡牌直接获得,不出现在卡包里;
起手可换3张牌!卡组牌数减为30!同名卡减为2张!防御塔取消啦!游戏内表情系统!打天梯赢定制城堡!(所以是要变成Cards and Hearthstone 2.0么……);
异步模式会有特殊规则;
快要beta了。
