What is the TOLC?
The Test On Line CISIA (TOLC) is a tool for guidance and assessment of initial competences, run on a computer platform managed by the Consorzio Interuniversitario Sistemi Integrati per l'Accesso (CISIA) - Consortium of Inter-University Integrated Access Systems. These are individual tests, different for each student, comprising questions selected automatically and randomly by the CISIA TOLC database using a proprietary software developed and managed by CISIA. How many TOLC are there?
There are two: TOLC-I and TOLC-E.
If you sit the TOLC-I, you can take part in the selections at the Schools of:
Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine
Engineering and Architecture
Sciences
and in the selection for the Degree Programme in Biotechnologies.
If you sit the TOLC-E, you can take part in the selections at the School of Economics, Management and Statistics and in the selection for the Degree Programme in Social Work.
For all other details on the selection methods, refer to the call for admission.
The two tests differ in the number, type and difficulty of the questions, and the time available.
TOLC-I has 40 questions (20 questions on mathematics, 5 questions on logic, 10 questions on science, 5 questions on verbal comprehension), and lasts one hour and 45 minutes.
TOLC-E has 36 questions (13 questions on logic, 10 questions on text comprehension, 13 questions on mathematics) and lasts an hour and a half.
The tests also have a section in English with 30 questions (15 extra minutes to sit the test); however, the results do not affect the evaluation laid down in the call, nor do they replace any language tests that may be required by the degree programme for admission. This section allows the students to self-assess their proficiency, and to register for any selections run by other universities which also include the English language section.

Where and when can I sit the TOLC?
You can sit the TOLC at any university belonging to CISIA.
The University of Bologna works with the TOLC model for several schools and degree programmes, both in Bologna and at the Romagna Campuses.

Other universities offer other places and dates where you can sit the TOLC-I and TOLC-E tests.
You can sit the TOLC anywhere and then register for any selection requiring the TOLC (I or E): you do not have to sit the TOLC in the same place as the degree programme you are interested in.

Can I resit the TOLC?
You may resit the TOLC, but not more than once a month (calendar month).
For the purposes of selection for the calls for admission at the University of Bologna, however, only the result of the last TOLC you sit, up to midnight of the day prior to the deadline indicated in the call, will be considered.

What do I have to do to register for the selection and be included in the ranking list?
Before registering for the selection, carefully read the call for admission; this will provide all the details concerning the deadlines, number of places available, selection criteria, registration methods, filling of any free places, etc.
You can register for the selection on the Studenti Online website, paying a 32 fee.
You can register for any selection at the University of Bologna which requires the TOLC (I or E), in the methods and terms indicated in the call for admission.
The TOLC are valid when sat before midnight of the day prior to the deadline indicated in the call.
The TOLC taken in 2014 is valid to access to the selection for the A.Y. 2015/16.
There are no other tests for these selections, and the ranking list is drawn up on the basis of the TOLC score, weighted according to the criteria which will be indicated in the call.
If you have won a place, you can register for your chosen programme, in the terms and methods which will be indicated in the call for admission. If you have not you must wait for the results of the recall for any free places after the first registrations.

Can I take part in more than one selection procedure?
If you have not passed a selection or if you passed it but didn't register within the terms laid down in the call, you can register for a subsequent selection at the same School (where foreseen) without paying the 32 fee again, or you may register for a selection in another School which requires the TOLC you have sat. In this case you must pay 32.

I am a candidate with a disability or learning disorder, are any compensative measures envisaged for the test?
Candidates with disabilities or learning disorders can apply for any required support and/or additional time, according to their certified difficulties, compared to that specified for candidates generally, as well as any other measures necessary to ensure equal opportunities in the tests.
Candidates with disabilities refers to: candidates who are blind or visually impaired (max. 10% sight in both eyes); candidates who are deaf from birth or prior to learning speech; candidates with civil invalidity of at least 66%; candidates with certified handicaps pursuant to Italian Law no. 104/92. Such conditions must be proven by specific medical certification issued by the competent health authorities. Candidates with learning disorders refers to: dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dysorthography, supported by specific clinical certification, issued no more than three years earlier by the National Health Service or other accredited facilities, where foreseen by the Regions.
Candidates must report such certifications when registering on-line on the CISIA website to submit the relative diagnosis and specify their specific requirements for the test. Later candidates will be contacted by Disabled and Dyslexic Students (dislessia@unibo.it 0512095943).

Are any specific TOLC dates set for non-EU students resident abroad?
The University of Bologna has set an additional date for TOLC tests (both TOLC – I and TOLC – E) for non-EU students resident abroad.
The test is reserved exclusively for non-EU students resident abroad who were not able to sit the other TOLC tests scheduled.
The test reserved exclusively for non-EU students resident abroad will be taken the 7th of September 2015.
