    Appearance
The phoenix is sometimes pictured in ancient and medieval literature and medieval art as endowed with animbus, which emphasizes the bird's connection with the sun.In the oldest images of phoenixes on record these nimbuses often have seven rays, likeHelios(the personified sun ofGreek mythology).Pliny the Elderalso describes the bird as having acrestof feathers on its head, andEzekiel the Dramatistcompared it to arooster.
Although the phoenix was generally believed to be colorful and vibrant, there is no clear consensus about its coloration.Tacitusclaims that its color made it stand out from all other birds. Some thought that the bird hadpeacock-like coloring, andHerodotus' claim of red and yellow is popular in many versions of the story on record.Ezekiel the Dramatist declared that the phoenix had red legs and striking yellow eyes, butLactantiussaid that its eyes were blue likesapphiresand that its legs were covered in scales of yellow-gold with rose-colored talons.
In terms of size, Herodotus, Pliny,Solinus, andPhilostratusdescribe the phoenix as similar in size to aneagle, but Lactantius and Ezekiel the Dramatist both claim that the phoenix was larger, with Lactantius declaring that it was even larger than anostrich.

      Etymology
The modern English nounphoenixderives fromMiddle Englishphenix(before 1150), itself fromOld Englishfēnix(around 750). Old Englishfēnixwas borrowed from Medieval Latinphenix, which is derived from Classical Latinphoenīx. The Classical Latinphoenīxrepresents Greek φοῖνιξphoinīx.
In ancient Greece and Rome, the bird, φοῖνιξ, was sometimes associated with the similar-soundingPhoenicia, a civilization famous for its production of purple dye from conch shells. A late antique etymology offered by the 6th- and 7th-century CE archbishopIsidore of Sevilleaccordingly derives the name of the phoenix from its allegedly purple-red hue. Because the costly purple dye from Phoenicia was associated with the upper classes in antiquity and, later, with royalty, in the medieval period the phoenix was considered "the royal bird".
In spite of thesefolk etymologies, with the deciphering of theLinear Bscript in the 20th century, the original Greek φοῖνιξ was decisively shown to be derived fromMycenaean Greekpo-ni-ke, itself open to a variety of interpretations.

Average pay and regular working hou job or high pay and longer working hour job?
In this society, more and more people are able to attend school to be educated, which means the competition becoming more intense, and many people find it difficult to find perfect jobs. Some guys want to earn a sum of money in a short time, so they always do the job with a higher pay but longer workings hours. However, in my opinion, I would choose a job with an average wage and regular time rather than the higher salary and longer working hours for the sake of my heath, less pressure and well-being.
Firstly, many people who have higher wages may easily get sick because they spend majority of time in working and have no time to do exercise. However, the people who have a regular working hours would have more time to do the things they like, such as shopping, traveling or doing sports. Enough leisure time is good for people’s health. For example, my uncle Peter does a job with a decent wage but he always needs to stay up late, sometimes he just sleeps in his office and has no time to have a meal. Even his hard work makes his family become rich, but his body becomes weaker than before and he always needs to see a doctor.
Secondly, a job with an average pay may have less competition than a high-wages-job because everyone nowadays wants to become rich. That means, less people would focus on finding average jobs. This may make the people who have average-pay jobs have less pressure. For example, my neighbor David works as a tour conductor in a small company. This is an average-pay job but he can travel around the world. Even his money could just afford his minimum living standard , but he always feels happy with his job.
Finally, the achievement not only means to become rich ,but if you work hard, you would achieve more than that. For instance, my cousin used to do a bad job on his study, and he even didn’t attend a college. So when he graduated from the high school , he worked as a car repairing technician. Because of his hard work, his boss sent him to learn English and gave him a chance to study abroad. He studied really hard and now he has a very good life in the U.S..
For these reasons, I think the job with average pay and regular working is better than the job with high pay but longer working time.

keep old friend or make new friend?
Looking through people’s whole life, I think friends play a very important part in people’s daily life. Sometimes they may be as indispensable as couple and even family members. When people move to a new place, the first priority is to make friends. Therefore, people would always meet some new guys and make friends with them. I think this action is more important than always keeps the old friends.
Firstly, when people move to new places they would easily feel lonely because they are new there. Therefore they need local friends to help them. The new friends will help them adapt to the new place and make them don’t feel lonely. For example, when my elder sister Amy firstly got into the new office, she felt so lonely because she was not familiar with people around her. However, a young girl called Betty was so nice to my sister and she helped my sister how to program excel files and taught her to manage documentary stuff. Amy felt so graceful to what she did and asked her to have dinner with her. Therefore, my sister won’t feel lonely any more in her office.
Secondly, people won’t always hang out with old friends all the time. The friends whom you made with probably come from different areas and they may be helpful in your job and daily life. For example, last year my father made friends with a local man during his trip. Once my dad hurt his leg badly at that place. However, luckily, his new friend was an orthopedist. The orthopedist had a careful scan on my dad’s leg and made a precise prescription to him. Not long after that day, my father’s leg gained full recovery.
Finally, the old friends may understand you most and get along well with you so easily. However, the old friends won’t always stay by your side. The friend you made during your student time won’t work with you in the same company and even live the same country. However, the new friends you make in different places may quickly be there for you.
Knowing new friends can help people to adapt to a new place quickly and enlarge their circle of friends. Making new friends can also help people improve their social skill. People should learn to make friends in different situations to make their life better.
