The Vampire Diaries First Season Report Card: A+
The television season may be over, but that doesn't mean the time to offer up critiques on various shows, characters and actors is finished.
As we head into the summer, TV Fanatic will be grading and reviewing a number of the small screen's biggest hits. First up: The Vampire Diaries.
What did we think of its first season? Who was its best character? Where do we hope it goes next year? Read on. Fine out. Chime in.
Best Character: Damon Salvatore. This will likely be the easiest choice we make on any show's evaluation. Ian Somerhalder simply owned this role, having a blast with Damon's snarky, sarcastic side - but deftly transitioning to serious and vulnerable when called for. Emmy voters will never even look at a CW show, but they should make an exception in this case.
Worst character: Caroline. This is more by default by anything. We had to choose someone. Caroline is nice and pretty, but she isn't a vampire. She isn't a werewolf. She's sort of just eye candy for male viewers, which does make me wonder: why am I complaining again?
Best episode: Blood Brothers. This hour took us back to 1864, revealing exactly how Damon and Stefan were turned. It also threw a major, believable twist into the relationship between these brothers. Amazing stuff.
Best storyline: The death of Vicki. This was a turning point for the show in more ways than one: it proved that almost any character could die at any time and it started Jeremy down a path that may lead to him becoming a vampire. Forgive the pun, but Vicki's murder raised the stakes onThe Vampire Diaries more than any event from its first season.
Hopes for next season: More background on Tyler and his werewolf connections; more Alaric; the return of Melinda Clarke as Kelly Donovan; Damon finally moving on from Katherine... by killing her!
Overall grade: A+. When The CW premiered this series, I was prepared for a rip-off of The Twilight Saga: a cheesy love story between a vampire and a human, few deaths, no real violence or ongoing mysteries. It's safe to admit: I was wrong! Elena and Stefan are in a stable, mature relationship; the acting is top-notch; answers are provided on an almost-weekly basis; and the show delivers more twists and turns than the Autobahn.
The CW will air reruns of The Vampire Diaries all summer long on Thursday nights. If you aren't yet a believer, tune in. You soon will be.

Ian演的真的很好，如果不是他把Damon那种对爱的执着，和内心的温柔外表的不在乎演的那么的淋漓尽致，我根本不能追着看TVD

I totally agree! VD was the best show this year and I can't wait for next season. Tough I'm not so sure if I'll like Nina playing two roles. Somehow this is always weird and unreal. So I really hope that Damon will kill Katherine at some point and end up with Elena. That's my only wish for Season Number 2. And don't let Caroline die -> she's a cute girl!

Personally i dont watch that much tv but i follow the occasional show. I watch House, NCIS, 24 and Vampire Diaries. and each week the only show which really got me excited was VD (its aired on tuesdays in england), so each week i would actually be sitting there excited for the next tuesdays episode which ive never done before. As for the who twilight thing, i think they are comparing it because its been turned into a tv show... which is quite different from the books. Even tho the book came out WAY before twilight the show didnt. the report card is for just the newest season. And i totally agree with that. In my opinions VD is the best show that was on tv this year! All i want in Season 2 is for the creaters to carry on the good work, aslong as they keep on the track they have set im sure we are in for another great season.
就本人来说我并不怎么看剧集，但是我偶尔也看一些，有H, NCIS, 24和VD，每周唯一能让我兴奋的是VD（英国每周二播出），所以现在我每周很激动地坐在电视前期待着下一个周二，以前我从没有过这样。。。。。

i agree almost with everything. Certainly Damon Salvatore is the best character and i totally agree he could qualify for an Emmy. But I find the love story between Elena and Stefan too boring. I think that Elena and Damon is where this show should focus in S2

I totally agree with you. Ian Somerholder owned this role. The only BUT is Stefan and Elena, they have not the enough chemistry to make them believable as a couple, sorry to say this. I have no problem with good girls with good boys but in this case lacks something.
我绝对同意Ian的演技。只是SE之间没有足够的火花让他们像一对情侣，抱歉说这个。我对于好女孩和好男孩在一起没意见，但是现在他们之间缺点什么。

Until I can see Damon Salvatore and not be reminded of Spike from Buffy, I'll continue to believe that Damon is not the best thing about TVD. His character lacks originality. Besides in every vampire series, there's always that dashing handsome asshole who comes in to stir everything up. When they do more with him then maybe I'll change my mind. Ian is great but Paul is better. And as for the Stefan/Elena thing? Are you kidding? Good thing the 'chemistry' between them is subjective because they do have it and then some. If I didn't know any better, I'd believe Paul and Nina had a thing going in real life. Aside from that, I agree with everything about the TVD review. Especially Blood Lines and the Vicki storyline.
I'm not seeing how GG got as high as a mark as it did though, season 3 was horrible.
我觉得D并不是VD里面最好的角色。这个角色缺乏独创性。和其他吸血鬼故事一样，总会有个超帅的家伙来推动故事发展，如果BJ能改进一下我可能更能信服。Ian很棒，但是Paul更棒。对于SE的火花？我觉得很好，而且我觉得P和N甚至在现实生活中也很有火花。

我觉得SD都很性感很惊艳，为啥你觉得K和他俩都约会？我看不出来。VD是目前我看到的CW台最好的。

Damon is the best character, in my opinion, hands down. From the beginning, Ian demonstrated a level of skill unparallel as he allowed his character as Damon to develop on so many levels. Stefan doesn't impress me that much. I suppose it goes with the traditional vampire boy meets girl and they like each other scenario, but hardly worth my attention. Without characters like Damon, it would be a snooze fest for me. Ian definitely owned his role.
D是最棒的角色，毋庸置疑。一开始Ian演绎了D不同层面的性格特色。S并没十分引起我注意，我以为这就是老套的吸血鬼男孩遇见人类女孩，然后相爱的套路，难以让我注意。如果没有D这个角色。我觉得VD肯定能让我看睡着。Ian绝对对得起他的角色。

Absolutely love the show. The three lead actors are amazing and the relationships are much more real than some more contemporary shows. I and so gratefull that Go! channel in Australia had the courage to fast-track the show; showing it only a couple of weeks after it first went to air in the US, and to their surprise it was a major hit. Soooo looking forward to the series return in September.

My compliments to VD! I'm totally addicted to this show. I think the chemistry between Stefan and Elena is great! I hope the writers keep this beatiful love story, it's so romantic! The actor did a great job, specially the 3 main-actors! My favourite is Paul Wesley, I don't know why, but is so sweet and gentleman and caring...OMG! I wish I'll have a BF like him! Stelena 4ever!

i think stefan and damon are equally awesome! it's just that they are so different, and i think that no one else could've played them better! love VD!

i agree with the writer here that EMMY awards should make an exception and atleast nominate Ian for his role as Damon Salvatore...his potrayal of damon is outstanding and effortless..HATS OFF TO YOU...keep up the good work throughout the series!!!nd VD deserves itz A+GRADE...!GOSSIP GIRL.. nt a big fan and its seems the storyline is going back to the same track and itz so predictable...GRAYS stopped it after season 4 ..so no idea about it now...Heard a lot about GLEE..hoping to catch up with it soon!!!

I totally agree with everything you said. Damon is my favorite character, Caroline got on my nerves with her petty jealousy and annoying way about her. My favorite episode was so far the season finally. It left everything open to question with little answers. Is Jermey going to be a vampire? Who kissed Damon at the end, Elena or Kathrine? Is the love triangle between Elena, Damon, and Stefan going to be answered? Are Tyler and Bonnie going to show more of there true natures? All questions that I have, that I cant wait to have answered. My least fovorite episode was when Vicki was killed( the second time). I thought they killed her off too soon. I think they could of had more story lines with her in it
I cant wait for season 2! I hope these next 2-3 months pass quickly!
我相当同意你说的所有的。D是我最喜欢的角色。C的嫉妒和恼人让我有点不适应。目前为止我最喜欢的一节是最后，因为出现了好多未知答案的谜题。J会变成吸血鬼么？最后谁亲D了，E还是K？EDS之间的三角关系会有答案么？TB会表现更多的本性么？好多问题，我都等不及了。我最不喜欢的一节是V被杀了（第二次）。我觉得他们让她死的太快了，其实应该有更多可以写V的。
我等不及第二季啦~我希望接下来的2~3个月快点过呀~~~
