Thrill seeker Pedrosa has fun in LA
The Repsol Honda rider was the guest of the title sponsors of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix as he had surfing and wind tunnel experiences ahead of this weekend’s race at Laguna Seca.
Travelling at speeds in excess of 300 km/h on two wheels may be considered as enough excitement for one person, but Dani Pedrosa was in search of a different kind of thrill in Los Angeles this week ahead of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.
The Repsol Honda rider took a surfing lesson from Red Bull sponsored surfer Levi Siver at Sunset Beach, spending an hour picking up the finer points of the water-based sport at which he seemed to excel.
Following that Pedrosa then headed over to Universal Studios where he was joined by baseball team San Francisco Giants’ pitcher Tim Lincecum, and the duo had a skydiving lesson in a wind tunnel with Red Bull Air Force member Sean MacCormac.
“It was great, something really different to what I’m used to! It was good fun to join Red Bull for this and I was very happy to. When you have new experiences and new friends it’s always nice and I really enjoy doing this kind of thing. It was also my first time ever surfing, so very cool!” said the 24 year-old MotoGP rider.
“With the waves and the air it’s totally different to racing a bike because there is no ground! The wave is always changing, so it is very different. I have done some windsurfing at home but the air tunnel I have never tried before. I really enjoyed both.”
Following victory in Germany last weekend Pedrosa’s focus now turns to attempting to secure his first back-to-back wins in the premier class, as he aims to repeat last season’s win at Laguna Seca.
“We did so well at the last race in Germany so I’m looking forward to this one. Last year we did well here at Laguna and I just hope to keep the momentum,” he concluded.
