A shepherd is a person who tends and rears sheep, or herds and tends other animals such as goats or camels. Shepherds are also responsible for protecting their flock from predators, disease and theft. They are usually found in rural areas where their primary job is to guard the herd. Shepherds may also be tasked with milking the animals, shearing them for their wool or other products, and providing medical care to sick or injured animals. In addition to tending the herd, shepherds often have additional responsibilities such as making cheese from sheep's milk, spinning wool into yarn, crafting tools out of wood or metal, and even playing music for entertainment.
