#BABYGIRL marks one of my favorite communal viewing experiences at TIFF 2024. The audience reaction here was next level, and it makes all the sense in the world — this movie SIZZLES! It is SO wholly consuming and I absolutely loved how it made my head spin — and perhaps continue to spin? There’s thoughtful and hugely satisfying closure, but much lingers.
Having seen it now, it makes all the sense in the world that Nicole Kidman snagged the best actress prize at the Venice Film Festival. Every time I think I’ve got a firm understanding of how damn talented she is, she unearths a whole new layer of ferocity and fearlessness. Destroyer still weighs heavily on my mind in that respect, and now so does Babygirl.
