On the morning of January 15th, the third session of the 14th People's Congress of Guangdong Province opened. The provincial government work report released subsequently shows that it is expected that the total economic output of Guangdong Province will reach a new level of 14 trillion yuan in 2024, ranking first in the country for 36 consecutive years
This means that Guangdong has become the first province in China with a total of 14 trillion yuan.
Throughout the ranks of major economic provinces in China, Jiangsu is closely following Guangdong step by step. In 2023, the GDP of Jiangsu Province is expected to reach 12.82 trillion yuan, with a year-on-year growth rate of 5.7% in the first three quarters of 2024. Based on this growth rate, the total economic output of Jiangsu Province in 2024 is expected to exceed 13 trillion yuan.
Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, as the top two economic provinces in China, are often compared. Jiangsu is one of the provinces with the smallest urban-rural income gap in China, with a total of five cities with an economic output exceeding one trillion yuan: Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, and Nantong.
Compared with Jiangsu, uneven regional development is a clear weakness for Guangdong.
