What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Too many to mention really. Being Stevie Wonder’s guest at his Hyde park show this year was pretty special. Our shows at Wembley Arena a few years back when 15,000 people were jumping up and down to Deeper Underground, and back in the day, the debut LP Emergency On Planet Earth going straight in at No.1.
At what age did you realise that music was going to be your life long career?
Well I wanted it as a teenager and loved music from much younger but it was when I really started getting the whole jamiroquai concept together was when I could see a proper career taking shape so I guess I was about 19...
Who has been your biggest inspiration and why?
My Mum probably. She was a singer so that was all I knew growing up the things I saw and places we went together definitely inspired me
Is there any other artist you would love to work with?
I’m glad to see Gil Scott Heron back this year, working with him would be fun.
What is the last thing you do before you go on stage?
Chill out and warm up
What would be your best advice for anybody wanting to get into the music industry?
That's a hard one - times have changed so much since when I go into it, when there was a scene going on you could build out of and not this celebrity culture we have today. I would say be prepared - its bloody hard work, be passionate about the music and not the other crap that goes on around it and do as much as you can yourself!
