Among the special guests of honor that came to AX 2009 is Yun Kouga, the brilliant manga artist behind such manga titles like Earthian, Yousei Jiken and current fan favorite Loveless. She’s also the character designer for Mobile Suit Gundam 00.
During her panel, Kouga-sensei encouraged all her fans in attendance to ask her any question and it’s not surprising that an overwhelming number of questions were about Loveless. Our small Q&A with Kouga-sensei went as following:
Ai: What was your thought process when you came up with Loveless?
Kouga: I came up with it because it was a long time since I written a story about a boy.
Ai: Will the series stay more a shoujo title or will it eventually become yaoi?
Kouga: I would like to take the series in a more “hardcore” yaoi direction than in the past. It all depends on a number of factors, though, but this is what I would like.
Ai: Are you happy with the way Loveless is printed here in the States? (a panel guest also asked this question and mentioned the translated sound effects versus the original sound effects).
Kouga: I would like for the series to stay as close to my vision as possible.
Kouga-sensei was astonished how many yaoi fans were in attendance and asked if they would like an original yaoi title penned by her. Judging by the overwhelming positive response, she felt encouraged enough to announce that she might just think about creating another title. That’s something to look forward to, yaoi fans.

On Loveless
APA: How much Loveless is left?
Yun Kouga: The manga will end at Vol. 15
APA: Will the Loveless anime ever get a second season?
Kouga: Maybe.
APA: Why is Loveless classified as a yaoi? Gundam Wing was more yaoi than Loveless.
Yun Kouga: I don't consider it as yaoi, but my fans do.

摇滚乐里有一个分支叫psychobilly, 特点是Psychobilly is often characterized by lyrical references to science fiction, horror and exploitation films, violence, lurid sexuality, and other topics generally considered taboo, though often presented in a comedic or tongue-in-cheek fashion。有一个psychobilly 的乐队叫loveless, 85年的时候就在唱。高河老师有没有听过？Loveless这个漫画有很多精神分析方向的探索，正是它吸引我的原因。Psychobilly 的关键词exploitation, violence, lurid sexuality也与漫画的隐喻重合

有关蝴蝶的隐喻。我知道的最狂热的蝴蝶捕捉者和收集者当属Vladimir Nabokov. 他的名著Lolita就是他在美国西部捕蝶的旅途中写就。虽然一直以文字为生，Nabokov通过对蝴蝶的捕捉收集和观察在1945年提出了独立的蝴蝶迁徙猜想，这个猜想在2011年被生物学家证实。Nabokov的儿子回忆父亲去世前的情景：A few days before he died there was a moment I remember with special clarity. During the penultimate farewell, after I had kissed his still-warm forehead—as I had for years when saying goodbye—tears suddenly welled in Father’s eyes. I asked him why. 众所周知，Lolita也是在探讨一片道德禁地，例如对未成年者的强烈情感。为了能让书出版，书中的隐喻比比皆是。是极好的阅读练习。

Loveless漫画从一开始就在通俗漫画与人性探讨之间边缘行走。猫耳猫尾是s.q.表演中经常出现的装束，与Sex behaviour相关的设定似乎都在提示作品的倾向。但是至少到12卷结束，并没有出现任何明显的场景。

有关牺牲者与战斗机的设定：明确的操纵人格(manipulative personality)与被操纵人格(manipulated personality)组合。战斗机的作战能力越强，这样的组合越令人惊讶，战斗机为什么要任由牺牲者操纵？回顾历史，每个独裁者身旁都出现了智勇双全、狂热忠诚的辅佐。从范蠡到韩信到中国现代史上这个不言自明的例子。

有关第七月的名字。日语是ななつの月，有一本科幻小说the puppet masters，中文译作傀儡主人，有兴趣的同学可以去百度一下。意大利语的题目译作la sesta luna(第六月）。第六月这个名字的来历是因为原著里入侵地球的外星生物来自土星的第六个卫星，Titan。第七月应该也是指一颗卫星。太阳系中的天王星，海王星，土星都有第七卫星。土星的尤其奇怪，是一个海绵状的天体。
